Sports Soundoff
This is Sports Sound Off, where you can speak your mind on anything you wish. Because of the large number of calls received, not all can be published.
Finebaum respected nationally -- A caller today pointed out that Paul Finebaum is brilliant and really knows how to get everybody hacked off. The caller missed the main point. Paul Finebaum is a gem. He is nationally respected. His radio show is one of the top 12 in Sports Illustrated. Most importantly, he is a well-respected journalist and a breath of fresh air for the Press-Register.
Do away with all fishing -- I have a solution to the issue of gill nets vs. sport fishing. Why not ban all gill nets and then take away fishing licenses? Then make it illegal to make a rod and reel or a pole. That way fish will nourish and we'll have fish taking over our world instead of us. If you take gill nets away, they're going to be mad at the sport fishermen and vice versa, and the sports fishermen always get their way. Do away with all types of fishing for awhile.
Horry delivered a cheap shot -- All you Alabama fans should really be proud of Robert Horry. He did a cheap foul on a guy a foot shorter and about 100 pounds less. I wonder why he didn't pull that cheap shot on somebody like Stoudemire.
Alabama will not hire Newsome -- Every few months people start talking about Ozzie Newsome coming to Alabama in some capacity. Well, he might come to Alabama by way of being in the crowd in the stands. That's the only way Alabama would have it.
Tiger Woods was simply outplayed -- This is to the golf fanatic who called in about Tiger Woods not being in the field: He was in the field. He just didn't get close enough to win. He barely made the cut and this is from a Woods admirer. If you don't know your golf, I don't know why you call in.
Jeff Gordon overcomes to win -- Take notice. See how Jeff Gordon wins a race again and his car is spewing stuff out and he doesn't get a yellow or black flag? If this scenario fits another situation, they throw the yellow.
Denny Hamlin should be happy with second -- This is about the NASCAR race Sunday. Denny Hamlin shouldn't be crying about coming in second place. There are 40 other drivers who would be glad to have second place.
Jeff Gordon continues to dominate -- To all you Jeff Gordon bashers: Jeff Gordon has won again. He won for the third time in four races. He has also won three poles in a row lately. He is in the lead in the Nextel Cup standings right now. He is a four-time Winston Cup champion, working on his fifth. Sunday's race was exceptionally special. His radiator was blowing steam out of the hood of his car and it looked like it would blow up, but it didn't. Jeff Gordon took the risk of blowing up his car and he won. The Press-Register said it right: He's still the one. Editor's note: Jeff Gordon won four straight poles and has won the pole in six of 11 events so far this season.
