START YOUR ENGINES: Will these two ever win?
Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin will win a race soon.
They have to, right?
The law of averages can't fail them forever. The cloud of bad luck that surrounds the Joe Gibbs Racing duo has to clear.
Denny Hamlin (613) and Tony Stewart (647) have combined to lead 1,260 laps so far, only 26 fewer than the Hendrick Motorsports combo of Jimmie Johnson (612) and Jeff Gordon (674) in the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series. But Johnson and Gordon have won seven of the 12 races, Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin none.
"Obviously, it's not been the season we've wanted," Tony Stewart told reporters this past week.
Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin are two of the hungriest drivers in the garage. Tony Stewart was visibly angered by his fuel-mileage blunder after the Coca-Cola 600 last week (not that Tony Stewart being distraught is out of the ordinary), and Denny Hamlin also relinquished the lead for fuel.
Don't worry, Tony Stewart, NASCAR isn't fixing the results. Victory will come, because Tony Stewart and Denny Hamlin are too good. And when it does, expect an awfully rowdy celebration to erupt. Until then, good luck to all those reporters seeking postrace interviews.
