Hamlin tops Busch final practice
JOLIET, Ill. - Denny Hamlin and Aric Almirola shared a car on their way to victory three weeks ago at Milwaukee.
Now they both could battle for a win Saturday at Chicagoland Speedway.
The Joe Gibbs Racing drivers were first and third in the final practice Friday for the USG Durock 300.
Denny Hamlin posted a speed of 177.713 mph, while Roush Fenway Racing's Carl Edwards turned a lap of 177.672, followed by Almirola's 176.742.
Braun Racing's Jason Leffler (176.650) and Richard Childress Racing's Jeff Burton (176.615) rounded out the top five.
Sixth through 10th were Hendrick Motorsports' Kyle Busch, RCR's Clint Bowyer, Wood Brothers/JTG Racing's Marcos Ambrose, Penske Racing's Ryan Newman and Roush Fenway's Matt Kenseth.
Qualifying is scheduled for 11:05 a.m. EDT Saturday with the race set for 3 p.m.
There were 46 cars pre-entered for the event, but Ginn Racing's Regan Smith was withdrawn prior to Friday.
